Creative Mentoring Training
Creative Mentoring places a strong emphasis on mentor training.
We have combined our award winning manuals into a new mentor
handbook, The Power of One. This new handbook is the
basis for our updated 3 hour training course for mentors interested in
working with school aged youth. Workshops cover the Creative Mentoring process, appropriate and inappropriate roles for
mentors, and listening and communication skills essential to successful mentoring relationships.
We have added training components on appreciating diversity as
well as the stages of the mentoring relationship to ensure that
mentors can overcome any challenges they face. This training
meets the Benchmarks outlined in the Elements of Effective
Practice for Mentoring, the standards created by MENTOR.
Creative Mentoring has a tailored mentor training and handbook for High School Students interested in mentoring younger elementary students. This two hour training session covers the same topics as our standard training in a way that engages high school students. We also have a tailored model for educators interested in working with children. These training sessions are scheduled when requested by partner sites.
All mentors involved in Creative Mentoring in-school and site-based programs are required to take our training. Our standard Creative Mentoring training is available to any volunteer mentor throughout Delaware at no charge, regardless of program affiliation. Customized training sessions are available for private groups on a fee basis. Our standard and customized training services are also offered to those outside Delaware on a fee basis.

Applications

Our Creative Mentoring applications take approximately one month to process, from the time of receipt. Please register for a training session at the same time you apply so that we can place you with a child as quickly as possible.
