March 2010- July 2010

Thanks to all the Individuals that helped Connecting Generations Celebrate it's 20 year Birthday. We had 110 guest join us for the Celebration Breakfast on Tuesday May 18, 2010  Click here for details.

 

Thanks to the individuals and organizations who supported Swing into Spring, formerly known as Jazz in January.  150 guests joined us for this cocktail party fundraiser on Saturday, March 13, 2010 to honor  Maurice Pritchett and others. See photos and read more details here.

 

December 2009 - February 2010

January was National Mentoring Month!  To celebrate in Delaware, the first annual "Mentoring Works" Summit was held on Tuesday, January 26, 2010 at the Sheraton Hotel in Dover.  With almost 300 enthusiastic participants, the event was a success!  Click here to learn more.

 

President Obama (read more) and the U.S. Senate (read more) have officially recognized January as National Mentoring Month 2010.

 

We are sorry to announce the passing of our Board Chair Darryl Simms.  We have created a page to share photos and information about Darryl and the upcoming funeral arrangements and Memorial Fund in his honor.  Click here to view.

The Wilmington Mentoring Commission and Office of Mayor Baker are trying to recruit 500 new mentors in the City of Wilmington!  Read more.

We're now on Facebook!  The Connecting Generations Facebook page went live on March 25th.  We're excited to offer a discussion board so mentors and coordinators can support each other.  Fans will also see the latest news and events on Facebook.  If you're not already on Facebook, now is the time!  It's easy and fun!

Creative Mentoring Appreciation Events to be held in Newark and Georgetown. Click here to join us.

Creative Transitions workshop at Academy of Lifelong Learning in Wilmington is free and open to the public.  Register today for this session that begins on April 8. 

Teachers at Newark and Middletown High Schools are becoming mentors.  Read more about this new initiative.  The new teacher training is now available for teachers around the state.  Contact Rachel Markowitz at 302.656.2122 ext 15 or rmarkowitz@connecting-generations.org to get your school involved.

December 2008

The Staff and Board of Connecting Generations announce winners of Robert A. Kasey, Jr. Lifetime Achievement Award and Exemplary Mentor and Coordinator Awards.

 

November 2008

Save the Date!  Jazz in January 2009 will be held on January 31st.

Connecting Generations' Director of Development, Stephanie Ferrell, will receive "Rising Star" Award at this year's Association of Fundraising Professionals' Philanthropy Day.  Read more.

 

September/October 2008

Winners of the Creative Mentoring Mini-Grant Program, sponsored by Valero Delaware City Refinery, were announced.  Funds were granted to twenty-one school mentoring programs for materials, supplies, or events that will directly impact mentored students.  Congratulations to the grantees, and thanks to Valero for its generosity!  Read the press release.   

Creative Mentors and mentees participated in NPR's StoryCorps project.  Listen to two of these interviews, which will be preserved at the Library of Congress for generations to come!

 

July/August 2008

Senator Tom Carper congratulates Creative Mentoring program and volunteer mentors on a successful school year 2007/2008.

The Board of Directors of Connecting Generations names Richard Kapolka as Executive Director.
